Business Idea Competitors

When analyzing who and what my three competitors to my business would be, Starbucks is the first that comes to mind.  They are possibly the most recognizable coffee chain in the world, and they have locations globally.  There are at least 4 within a 10 minute drive of my house.  They offer convenience and consistency, which is hard to beat.  People like what they like, and if they know what they enjoy from starbucks, they can get it from any location with minimal variation.  They also have great branding and promotions, which adds another element of how they are tough to compete with.  Although they lack speciality roasts, minimal personal touch, and no learning element.

The 2nd that I thought of is Nespresso.  They offer easy to use coffee machines that lets their users make espresso at home with low effort.  Their product is impressive, and is a simple to use machine and capsule system that offers a decent variety of flavor preferences.  This system allows for consistency in brewing espresso everytime with no changes between shots.  They have good branding as well, which gives the impression of sleek and higher end.  Cons are that there is a rise in waste issues with single capsules, and a limiting experience in making coffee.

My third competitor that I have identified is Seattle’s Coffee Gear.  They are a well known retailer for coffee equipment in the PNW who specialize in coffee equipment.  They have everything from machines, grinders, and beans.  They have an extensive range of products to accommodate a person of any level, they provide in-depth reviews of equipment, and have an online and in-person store.  Cons would be that their main focus is on selling equipment, although they do offer tasting areas.  Their training is also video focused, which is good, but different from what I am wanting to offer.

These are who I have identified as three of my biggest competitors.  While I named Starbucks specifically, they also represent mainstream coffee chains as a whole in this analysis, they just happen to be the most well known company.  Another honorary mention would be Dutch Bros, and same goes for the other companies I listed such as Nespresso representing convenient home espresso brands.  All of these companies offer an element of what I want to offer at my cafe, but differ in the experience that they provide.
